Cybertoyz is a project based in Moscow, Russia, and created by guitarist/composer Alexander Korpusov (also known as Zyggie - nickname taken as a Cybertoyz's member).
The band was formed in 2004, when Zyggie joined forces with Ruslan Dzhigkaity (drums) and Sergey Timofeyev (bass). Being inspired by such instrumentalists as Joe Satriani, Jeff Beck, Buckethead, Steve Vai, Vernon Reid and progressive rock bands like Rush and Dream Theater on one hand and electronic artists like Aphex Twin, The Young Gods, Nine Inch Nails, Gravity Kills, Pitchshifter and Die Krupps on the other, Zyggie wanted to create music that would be a mix of "traditional" guitar instrumentals and electronic sounds and beats.
This idea had its realization in Cybertoyz's debut album "Chaos Theory" (2006), which was recorded and produced by Zyggie in his own home studio, and presented rather unusual instrumental guitar music – industrial rock with catchy riffs on odd, fusion-like chord progressions, and Satriani-like legato shredding along with industrial breakbeats and electronic sounds/grooves/noises.
Despite all this “electronica extravaganza”, Cybertoyz successfully perform live shows as a trio.
Although the first album as well had had some moderate success via internet, Zyggie decided to cancel performing live, and concentrated on studio work with other Russian artists. Among them were a female pop-rock singer Larissa Dolina, NYL (a progressive rock band), the legend of Russian heavy metal scene Igor Kupriyanov and many others. Also Zyggie played live with such legendary musicians as Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen, and jazz maestro George Duke.
In 2009-2010 Zyggie got the endorsement contracts with Framus/Warwick and AMT Electronics.
During 2012-2013 the band had been working in studio on their second album “Undo. Exit” (completed in january 2014). The album was produced by Nickolay Vengrzhanovich, a talented sound engineer and producer, working for Light Temple Records, and Zyggie himself. The music presented on the new album became more atmospheric, a bit darker, but still it’s the same highly energized industrial rock outlined with virtuoso guitar work.
Zyggie's guitar playing is versatile and rather sophisticated, yet at the same time quite recognizable, every phrase shows his own stylistic signature and unique feel. Smooth and seamless flow of legato/tapping passages, tasteful slides and use of tremolo bar - all this, played over hard-edged riffs and pumping electro/industrial grooves, has undeniably become the trademark of Cybertoyz's sound - heavy and innovative.
With the second album released, the band is putting together some new tunes for their next album, which may become a real surprise for Cybertoyz's fans - there'll be elements of IDM, post-rock and sludge music.
