One look at Soul Side In, you’d think it was the 70’s and Glam Rock at its peak - well think again. Behind the glam is pure rock
One look at Soul Side In, you’d think it was the 70’s and Glam Rock at its peak - well think again. Behind the glam is pure rock; as hard and edgy as they can make it.
Featuring Dan Schmidt (vocals), Allen Schmidt (guitar), Samuel Leszczynski (drums) and Dayne Finley (bass), each member of SSI are accomplished musicians. Allen, the only born and bread Albertan, has a uniquely natural skill for recording music, providing the power riffs that make the SSI sound. An Australian born Canadian, Sam’s late father was also a drummer, and his first drum kit was his dad’s, a tribute to the man that taught him everything. Playing the bass since the 4th grade, Dayne lists greats such as Les Claypool, Victor Ruben and Flea as his influences. Possessing a very animated and deliberate style, Dayne demands attention when on stage. Frontman, Dan is a man of mystery, and has called many places throughout Canada home. The dark and brooding side that lives within Dan comes through in the music, turning it into a positive.
In early 2007 the band spent several months writing and co-writing with Shaun Verreault (Wide Mouth Mason), among others. Working with Garth Richardson (Alice Cooper, The Guess Who, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nickelback and Motley Crüe, Rage Against the Machine, Mudvayne) and Ben Kaplan (Atreyu, Alexisonfire, Rise Against, Mudvayne, Shakira), and recruiting the talents of Dallas Smith and Dave Benedict (Default) Soul Side In began work on their first full length album. Mixed by Mike Fraser (AD/DC, Aerosmith, Slipknot, Buckcherry, Mother Mother) and Dean Maher (Finger Eleven, Art Of Dying, Nickelback, Rise Against), the self-titled CD was released in the fall of 2009.
They were invited to play a showcase during Canadian Music Week, 2009, in Toronto, achieving industry attention and Canada wide distribution, only to be invited back for Canadian Music Week in 2010. The release and success of their first album saw them touring with such bands as Default, Buckcherry, The Trews, Rev Theory, Our Lady Peace, State of Shock, Marcy Playground, My Darkest Days, Thornley, The Watchmen, Hinder, Bif Naked, Social Code and Wide Mouth Mason.
In 2011 they began work on their follow-up album. Jetting off to sunny Las Vegas that summer to work with acclaimed producer Kevin Churko (Ozzy Ozbourne, Five Finger Death Punch, Slash, Hinder), the new album is set for a 2012 release. The first single, a Pat Bentar cover, “Invincible” is already making radio air play, with the music video making regular rotation on MuchLoud.
Don’t let appearances fool you, Soul Side In is everything Rock n’ Roll is about; sexy, brooding, powerful and aggressive!
