Growing up in Bainbridge Island, Washington, Cole was surrounded by Seattle’s grunge movement. At 17, with guitar in hand, he knew he wanted music to be his own.
Cole joined the United States Navy in 2002; the experiences there, mixed with his creative genius, gave him a brand of music that was dark, fleeting, and emotional.
After returning from a six-month deployment in 2005, where he wrote most of the music for his debut album, the singer/songwriter formed the Virginia Beach-based rock band Chasing Corona. The success of its first single “Sand to Stone” received critical acclaim and made it to local airwaves on what was then 100.5 WXMM MaxFM.
With the full-length album release of “Black Eye and Candlelight,” Cole made it onto the pages of The Virginian-Pilot, a daily newspaper based out of Norfolk, VA. His band generated enough local interest that The Pilot reported the making of the “Sand to Stone” music video which, with the Navy’s permission, was partially filmed on a military base. The published stories can be found online at HamptonRoads.com.
Cole participated in New York City’s Fleet Week Celebration in 2007, 2008, and 2009, opening for national recording artists George Clinton and Joan Jett.
Hampton Roads television stations and national radio, including the Jim Kerr Rock & Roll Morning Show in New York, have featured him. In addition to The Pilot and its publications, Cole - as the voice of Chasing Corona - has been featured in the following print publications: The Flagship, Splash Magazine, and the Jet Observer.
Cole, fronting the rock band, went from playing his brand of music in the bar scene to showcasing his talent in front of thousands at a 20,000-seat amphitheater in Virginia Beach. In 2009, as the voice of Chasing Corona, he took the stage opening for Creed one night then returned the next, as part of Crue Fest 2, and opened for Motley Crue.
In 2010, Cole Childers left Chasing Corona to focus on a new vision for his songwriting. “My lyrics are a lot more positive and hopeful,” Cole said of his new project.
Cole’s love of music and drive for success has brought him to a professional level and has molded him into one of the best rock singer/songwriters that the Hampton Roads area has seen in decades.
Cole Childers has been busy at work with his upcoming EP entitled “Aurora”. His latest music video “Fall With Me” was filmed in Los Angeles and Hampton Roads; it features the emotional turmoil often associated with the men and women of the armed forces.
