Emily Davis troubadour, conjure woman, ritualist and story weaver. Sometimes black hearted, with whiskey soaked vocals
Emily Davis troubadour, conjure woman, ritualist and story weaver. Sometimes black hearted, with whiskey soaked vocals this chanteuse has walked the line since her inception in this life as a singer-songwriter. Bringing dark country, swampy blues and gypsy heartache to her latest edition of works, her tale telling, reflections and musings strike straight through the heart, lyrics piercing like flaming arrows from her leather bow. Dealing with forbidden love, death, homecoming and touching on the recurring archetypes of the past life, Emily has consulted her mixed bloodline to share stories handed down. To renew old traditions. To remember those who have fallen, and to bring to life the eerie events in her often spectacularly dark dream world.
A rekindling of old musical flames has resulted in the formation of "The Open Road". A combination of seasoned heavyweights from the Adelaide music scene, including Steve Pederson on (Guitar and Banjo), rhythm section Mel Horsman (Drums and Percussion) and Jamie Harrison (Bass), and new emerging talent in Tori Phillips (Fiddle) and David Marino (Piano Accordion). These intuitive musicians cradle Davis' lead vocals, with balance and sensitivity, yet when the call is made build a beautiful unstoppable momentum with bold hearts. Her second album "Undone" is in its final mixing stages will be release at on June 4th at the Queen's Theatre.
Having earnestly slogged her wares around Australia on the live acoustic scene she has performed on tours and festivals (including WomAdelaide, Peatsridge Festival and Semaphore Music Fest). Davis' debut album "Moving in Slow Motion" was produced and mentored by Aria Award winning singer-songwriter Monique Brumby and was released to much critical acclaim and national airplay. Her popularity as a performer has seen her support such artists as Clare Bowditch, The Audreys, CW Stoneking, Kate Miller-Heidke, Renee Geyer and Kristina Olsen.
Unsatisfied with being pigeon-holed as "just a girl with a guitar", Davis has successfully tried her hand at film scores (Mercury Cinema's like Silent Remasters for "Nanook of the North") and locally produced film by Bowen Ellames "Daniel. She has co-produced early recorded works for The Timbers, and has shared her delicious vocals on albums with blues maestro Cal Williams Jr (Morning Star, and The Northern Line), songbird Courtney Robb's "Amidst the Noise and the Haste" and the solo album of innovative songwriter Jesse Atkinson on "The Waterline". She has also produced four sell-out Cabaret shows as writer and co-producer of the Adelaide Fringe Festival.

"This singer/songwriter has come up with a stellar album. Davis has a beautiful voice, whose style resembles Sarah Blasko's sound with a little less pop."
Sunday Telegraph
"Emily's songs not only contain sensitive, well-constructed lyrics and catchy melodies but they are made even more pleasurable by her exquisite voice and charming stage presence. Her live performance exudes a grounded-ness and sincerity that is totally absorbing."
dB Magazine
"Davis is the real deal. Reminiscent in some respects to Natalie Merchant, Davis's songs are soulfully colourful, her voice is smooth and her compositions are mature. With the right song she'll be catapulted to the highest echelons of her profession."

"Emily Davis' release baths the listener in acoustic brilliance with a swath of angelic tracks the likes not seen before in Australia. Tracks on the album can be compared to Missy Higgins, Kasey Chambers & more, but Emily has an instant appeal that draws you into feeling the journey this storyteller is presenting. A delightful education on the finer side of music, Moving In Slow Motion really gives Emily Davis the cross over potential like Bernard Fanning has."

"Emily Davis has talent in spades. The most striking feature of her debut CD is the assuredness in which she delivers her strong material. Some debuts succeed through raw originality of youthful enthusiasm. Davis scores with her glorious melodies and mature delivery, sometimes reminiscent of like-minded Adelaidians, Fruit. The arrangements are at turns sparse and lush, the sign of an artist who is deeply in touch with her work. This is a collection of beautiful songs that you will absorb as I have. We at Blaze love independent artists, and this is a top shelf example of why."
